CDC Trusted Intermediary

GitHub

An official CDC intermediary solution to support public health outcomes by ensuring timely delivery of health data throughout the U.S. health ecosystem. I worked as an Integration Engineer on this project from 2023 to 2025.

Contributions

  • Designed and implemented a flexible framework for FHIR and HL7 validations, transformations, and test assertions — the core functionality of the intermediary. The framework simplified and scaled how validations and transformations are added and maintained.
  • Designed a solution for full end-to-end test coverage of the complete flow of orders and results, including the ReportStream external service.
  • Worked on mapping and translation of HL7v2 ORM, OML, and ORU messages to and from FHIR, coordinating with the ReportStream team and contributing to their open-source codebase.
  • Helped onboard partners, coordinating with them to develop and establish successful connections with all integration points.
  • Contributed to an open-source tool for gathering DORA metrics, which was deployed and used in the project.
  • Took on a leadership role, guiding sprint goals and running engineering sessions for brainstorming, planning, and knowledge sharing.
